Joshhhhh! asked:

I want to just go over the border for a few hours, buy some real teuilla, maybe some knock off sunglasses, and get some mexican things, should I go to Tijuana, or is it dangerous?

Its going to be a group of about 10 of us.. can we walk over the border? I really do not want to drive..

  2. Tijuana is probably one of the most ugliest places in Mexico. if you really wan to see the real beauty of Mexico, then go to Michoacan, Guadalajara, guanajuato, or San Miguel.
Those places are safe and way cleaner than Tijuana. Plus there is so much more to do.

  3. Yes, you can walk across the border and I would suggest that you do that instead of driving over. You can park and take a tram that gets you very close to the border, from there you can walk. When you get across, there are tons of taxis queued up to take you wherever you want to go.

Make sure to bring cash as I don’t recall seeing an ATM anywhere, nor did I feel like taking my credit cards with me. My friend was an idiot and only brought his debit card, so we had to walk back across the border, use an ATM on the U.S. side, then walk all the way back.

We had a great time - with a group that large, you should have safety in numbers!

tijuana is easy to get to from sd. you may need to take a bus or drive because recently the border crossing walkway over the bridge was stopped. maybe it started again, but you should check right before you go for current status. not dangerous –everyone goes….

you may also consider going a bit farther down to rosarita beach which is more laid back, not so noisy, etc or enensada which is on the water & also laid back.

If u have never been its worth going. Drive to the border and there are some pay and park places on the US side. There are also a couple duty free stores. There u can get discounted Alcohol and other stuff without import taxes. Driving across is somewhat risky, anything could happen. Its about a 10 min walk from the border to revolucion ave which has alot of vendors on it. Try not to come back at rushhour or else u well sit in a line at the border for a while.

Also ive heard that the costco in TJ is really cheap for the same stuff u get in USA. U are allowed to bring up to $400 worth of stuff back with u.

If u do drive to mexico, u can get insurance for the day at

Well those answers were all well and good. But they forgot the MAJOR POINT, do you have a passport, or have you applied for a passport. IT IS MEXICO. you are not allowed unless you have one or have applied for one. They will let you into Mexico, but you may not be able to get out. You have until January 08 to have your passport, but as long as you can show proof that you have applied for one, there should be no problem. It is a sign of the times you can no longer just go to Mexico, or Canada, by driving or walking over the border anymore. Passports are a requirement.

It’s only dangerous is you’re a big wus! Casadores is one of my favorite Tequilas. You can get it in the US, but it’s a lot cheaper in Mex.

Don’t judge Mexico by it’s border towns. Tijuana is not the best looking border town either. Cheap beers and good food though.

  8. It’s fun, and great. I’m moving to Canada sept 5th and I was born and raised in SD. Before I leave for Canada I’m going to walk across to tj, take a picture with a sombrero and the donkey, eat tacos, and buy some little mexican things to take with me for one last time. I totally suggest you go. Oh, and about the passport thing, you don’t need one yet. I just crossed last sat. night pretty wasted and just basically flashed my id. lol Just don’t forget your id. I think you can only cross like a bottle or two of alcohol. 10 of you guys will probably get more attention from vendors but that’s probably just it. Some places do take visa but theres like a 5-10 dollar charge for using it (ie the vip movie theather at the plaza rio mall.) Have fun!

It is true that there are some ugly parts in Tijuana…but its like any other city, San Diego has its ugly parts too, so to disregard going to TJ just bc some people say is ugly would be a bad choice.

Although I do suggest you take a tour, that way you can at least have a good time without having to worry about anything else. The tours take you to the shopping areas and let you walk around so shopping wont be an issue.

You can also take a tour to Rosarito, Puerto Nuevo, or Ensenada! Those are good places to visit as well. You can hang out by the beach, buy all the stuff you want to buy & have a lobster dinner!

Sure you can walk across. Everyone I know always wanted to go there when they came to visit. It will make you grateful that you live in the USA. GO!
