The San Diego-Tijuana Metropolitan Area is the name of an urban agglomeration surrounding the cities of San Diego, California, United States and Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico. The region consists of San Diego County in the United States and the municipios of Tijuana and Playas de Rosarito in Mexico. The total population of the region has been estimated to be about 5.1 million in 2007
The international border between the United States and Mexico runs from San Diego-Tijuana eastward towards The Gulf of Mexico. The border’s total length is 1,951 miles (3,141 km) with over 350 million people crossing, legally, every year.

The San Ysidro border crossing (San Diego-Tijuana) is the busiest border crossing in the world, in 2005 41,417,164 people entered the US through this port[3]. The great majority of these are workers (both of Mexican and U.S. nationality) commuting from Tijuana to jobs in the greater San Diego area and throughout southern California. There is also a thriving reverse
Some foot travelers own a car in each country, and store them in one of the large parking lots located near the border post, or use the respective public transportation systems of both cities (both systems have a bus station built solely to serve the border crossing point, and the San Diego Trolley runs from downtown San Diego to the border crossing).
San Diego, Califas is one of the most Mexican Cities in USA. Learn Spanish or go back to New England!

there are already borders there. and it is partially fenced. i’m not sure military presence is appropriate, however. why do you think we have border patrol?

  2. chiquis707 says:

They’re already divided by international borders.

  3. Big Jon says:

San Diego and Tijuana ARE already divided by the border AND a fence. The fence constructed in this area has worked and is continuing to work. However, it has merely shifted the illegal crossings further to the east into the more remote regions of the deserts of California and Arizona.

As a resident of San Diego, I have absolutely NO DESIRE to have Tijuana as a part of my city. They are hardly twin cities and if you think that, you’re full of crapola.

San Diego is a prosperous tourist destination with a vibrant economy. Tijuana is a typical Mexican border town with it’s corrupt police department and government, rampant poverty, open sewage, and unless you’re wealthy, the living conditions are appalling.

There is a fence. It just needs to be longer and bigger.

    With geoprobe cabability for tunnels.
