What does my toddler need to get into Mexico?

We are leaving for Mexico in about 3 weeks. I realize that soon passports will be required for everyone, but that hasn’t taken effect just yet. My husband and I will have our ID’s and birth certificates. I have my child’s birth certificate, but will I need anything else? When coming back from Tijuana recently all they looked at was the birth certificate, but this time we are flying to Cancun. Anyone had recent experience with this?? Thanks!!
